  17. It's "unified" in the sense that the goal is that it is completely
  18. self hosting and includes source.  I.E. that everything you need to build
  19. any part is included and you have the full source code to everything.

  21. Plus, all the binaries are rebuilt at each release.  This ensures that
  22. the above goal is met and helps to ensure the stability and ability to
  23. interoperate for all the tools.

  25. This is just an extension of the idea started with the first FreshFish CD
  26. except that now everything is available via ftp and should be updated more
  27. often (like every 2-4 weeks).  One problem that is just going to get worse
  28. is that a complete multistage rebuild after each significant change takes
  29. over two days on my A4000 with 40Mhz WarpEngine.  I'm getting to be in
  30. serious need of an 060, but even that might not be enough.  I suspect that
  31. once I get a linux based cross compilation environment set up on a fast
  32. Pentium that the recompile time will be cut to only a few hours, but
  33. I'm resistant to moving from a native environment to a cross environment
  34. for general development.  Perhaps a good compromise will be to do all
  35. the intermediate builds in a cross environment and then do the final build
  36. before release in a native environment.  This won't stress test everything
  37. quite as much, but will certainly reduce my stress level.  :-)

  41. Well, whats available right now under ftp.amigalib.com:pub/ade/...  is
  42. a complete environment (much more so than anywhere else I know of).
  43. There is active ongoing development on several fronts, including work
  44. on the debugger, work on ports of other interesting programs, and
  45. hopefully some Amiga GUI specific work soon.  People should feel free
  46. to "adopt" certain parts and work on making them better.
